Keys Left in Vehicle Can Result in Fine
La Crosse area drivers should be aware and reminded of the ordinance that does not allow keys to be left in an unattended vehicle.
The La Crosse Police Department reminds that, “no person shall permit a motor vehicle in his custody to stand or remain unattended on any street, alley or in any other public place.” The ordinance does include short stops to local businesses such as Kwik Trip.
The ordinance also states that every passenger motor vehicle shall be equipped with a lock suitable to lock either the starting lever, throttle, steering apparatus, gear shift lever or ignition system. If you are not in your vehicle, your key should also not be present in the vehicle.
Failure to comply with the ordinance will result in a fine of $101.
